Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE): Adult, Adolescent and Pediatric
The SANE trainings are geared towards APRNs and RNs with two years of clinical experience. Our SANE trainings have been reviewed and approved by the International Association of Forensic Nurses as trainings that meet education standards.
This continuing education activity is designed for the registered nurse interested in caring for this specialized population. Participants of this course will learn the valuable role of the registered nurse as a forensic nurse examiner, practice standards, components of the adult, adolescent, and pediatric medical forensic exam, evidence collection, and the importance of community collaboration.
Topics to be discussed:
- History of Forensic Nursing
- Physical assessment
- Ano-genital exam
- Obtaining a history
- Collection and preservation of evidence
- The suspect exam
- The role and collaboration with community partners including: Law Enforcement, Advocates, Crime Lab and Judicial System.
The SANE-A and SANE-P training provide for 40.75 CNE through the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
SANE Clinical Skills Workshop: Adult/Adolescent
This 2-day Clinical Skills Workshop is designed to provide the learner with the hands-on experience to confidently begin caring for this specialized patient population. This training will engage the learning in simulated evidence collection, pelvic examination, speculum insertion, use of clinical adjuncts, and the experience providing simulated medical forensic exams, from start to finish.
This workshop provides this learning experience with the use of LIVE simulated patients that will engage the learner in the examination process as well as provide technique feedback.
This workshop will count towards OAG Certificate obtainment through the completion of some if not all the speculum exams and two (2) simulated medical forensic exams.
Attendees are required to attend both days of this workshop and complete the required follow up evaluation forms once the workshop is complete prior to obtaining their CNE certificate. This workshop will provide 16 CNE through the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
Requirements for registration:
- RN or APRN or physician
- Completed a qualified 40 hour didactic SANE-A training
